Re: Detention of Professor Osman
Your Excellency
On behalf of the Sudanese community in London we write to you to express our deep concern and worry regarding the well being of a member of our community and a British citizen of Sudanese origin, Professor Mohammed Zainulabdeen Osman, who has been in the custody of Sudanese state security forces since the evening of Saturday 20th February 2012.
Professor Osman, who is 65 years and a university lecturer, is believed to be held on account of a newspaper article published in the now suspended Al-Tayar daily newspaper published in Khartoum on the 20th February 2012 in which he exercised his right of expression by commenting on a recent TV interview given by the Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir which had received widespread publicity and debate.
Indeed the manner in which he has been detained especially with the initial refusal of the Sudanese security services to acknowledge his detention and with his family being denied access to him or the right of legal representation is worrying. More pressing is his critical state of health as he suffers from diabetes & high blood pressure and recently underwent extensive abdominal surgery for cancer and he requires access to his medication and a balanced diet; none of which is being catered for at the moment.
We call upon you to raise this matter with the authorities in the Sudan and demand legal, medical and family access to Professor Osman and safeguard of his welfare and in the absence of any criminal proceedings his immediate release without delay or hindrance.

A nome della comunità sudanese a Londra, scriviamo a voi per esprimere la nostra profonda preoccupazione e preoccuparsi per quanto riguarda il benessere di un membro della nostra comunità e un cittadino britannico di origine sudanese, il professor Mohammed Osman Zainulabdeen, che è stato sotto la custodia di sudanesi le forze di sicurezza di Stato, poiché la sera di Sabato 20 febbraio 2012.
Professor Osman, che è di 65 anni, docente universitario, si ritiene che si terrà a causa di un articolo di giornale pubblicato in ora sospeso Al-Tayar quotidiano pubblicato a Khartoum il 20 febbraio 2012 in cui ha esercitato il suo diritto di espressione da parte commentando una recente intervista televisiva data dal presidente sudanese Omar El-Bashir che aveva ricevuto la pubblicità diffusa e dibattito.
Infatti il modo in cui è stato detenuto in particolare con il rifiuto iniziale dei servizi di sicurezza sudanesi a riconoscere la sua detenzione e con la sua famiglia viene negato l'accesso a lui o il diritto di rappresentanza legale è preoccupante. Più pressante è il suo stato di salute critiche come lui soffre di diabete e pressione alta e di recente ha subito un intervento di chirurgia addominale per il cancro e che richiede l'accesso al suo farmaco e una dieta equilibrata, nessuna delle quali viene soddisfatti al momento.
Facciamo appello a sollevare la questione con le autorità del Sudan e la domanda di accesso legale, medico e familiare al professor Osman e la salvaguardia del suo benessere e in assenza di un procedimento penale la sua liberazione immediata e senza ritardi o impedimenti.
