Khartoum - In his first visit to Khartoum, US Special Envoy for Sudan, Princeton Lyman, will start this morning his first talks with Foreign Minister, Ali Ahmed Karti on the outstanding post referendum issues and bilateral relations.
The government conditionally welcomed the visit as the Foreign Ministry Spokesman; Khalid Musa said that they called on the Envoy to deal with neutrality towards the outstanding issues besides a positive contribution in Darfur issue through urging the factions to join Doha talks.
Musa said that Lyman will meet other high-ranking officials in the government.
It is worth noting that this is considered the first for the US Special Envoy to Sudan since he was officially nominated last week.
Meanwhile, Sweden Envoy for Sudan, Michael Sahlin arrived yesterday in Khartoum and held discussions with Foreign Ministry Undersecretary, Rahamatallah Mohammed Osman who on his part called on the international community to neutrally support the CPA partners.
Osman affirmed Sudan's keenness to resolve Abyei issue through peaceful negotiations.
On his part the Swedish Envoy said that the EU started seriously its efforts to discuss Sudan debt relief, adding that his country supports the proposal of organizing a conference in Brussels in the upcoming period to discuss the peace and South Sudan secession challenges besides dropping Sudan's debts.
The Swedish envoy to Sudan has renewed his country's encouragement to Sudanese issue through development assistance.
Speaking exclusively to Sudan Vision following his meeting with Foreign Affairs committee at parliament Michael Sahlin affirmed that Sweden offered 27 million euros to Sudan during and post CPA. He pointed out that Sudan is important for Northern Africa as it borders Egypt and Libya.
Sahlin lamented that his country push EU to make a common ground with Sudanese issue; "We are seeking wise role for EU for both north and south Sudan," said.
In response to the question on different voice in EU countries towards Sudan Sahlin stated that he does not see a big difference within the EU policy but refused to mention the causes of complications of such relations.
In the same context, the Swedish envoy explained that his meeting with the committee of foreign affairs dealt with the CPA implementation and the development following the secession of South Sudan as well as issue of legitimacy which has been raised between both sides to establish viable states and their commitment not to return to war according to Sahlin they have also discussed the current negotiations between the government and Darfur armed movements in Qatari capital Doha.
It is worth noting that Sweden is one of the brokers of the CPA and a part of donors.
